Secure Messaging/Data Transfer and SAS70 Compliance
Corporations have security concerns regarding data being transmitted to third parties who manage the delivery of messages. That is why there are various options to choose from to connect to the service; Transport Layer Security (TLS), Virtual Private Network (VPN) and Secure File Transfer Protocol (FTP). As an added measure, the service Operations goes through an annual SAS70 Audit and the annual report can be requested for internal review.
Transport Layer Security (TLS)
TLS is an extension of the SMTP service on Exchange Servers which allows an SMTP server and client to use transport-layer security to provide private, encrypted communication over the Internet. The service will detect if your Email Server has TLS turned on and will communicate using TSL during the transmission of the email message.
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites. Instead of using a dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line, a VPN uses "virtual" connections routed through the Internet from the company's private network to the service Hosted Site. This provides added security around the messages.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
FTP is a standard network protocol used to exchange and manipulate files over a TCP/IP based network, such as the Internet. FTP is built on a client-server architecture and utilizes separate control and data connections between the client and server applications. Connection to the Host Server FTP is authenticated by the use of client id and password. Scripts can be written to send and receive faxes at timed intervals, as well as receive status results from previously submitted requests.
